Our transition to the cloud – EVOX was the last piece of the puzzle

“After surveying multiple suppliers, we found the EVOX admin site to be the most complete and clear”
by Tim, MIS manager, Femas HR

At the start of 2020, the coronavirus pandemic began to wreak havoc on businesses. For an IT company like Femas HR, the crisis was an opportunity to transform. It was also not the first time Femas had to face such a crisis. This has been our story.

Crisis as a window of opportunity - our transition to the cloud

When Femas first got started, our business was to bid on government jobs for a one time fee. We were quite small then and, to survive, we developed custom software to accept a one time payment. But this kind of business model limited our future. The bottleneck led us to the opportunity to transition our HR system to the cloud. For small and medium businesses that cannot afford hundreds of thousands of NTD to build an HR system, a cloud based subscription model makes our service very affordable.

In today’s cloud era, moving services to the cloud is not a big deal, and most businesses have accepted the benefits. But ten years ago, when Femas came out with a cloud HR system, it was unprecedented. In fact, very few businesses could even accept the idea. We had to make a choice between two difficult paths. Stick with a dead-end business model, or bravely embark on the treacherous path to the cloud? Eventually we chose the latter and embraced the cloud.。

But business transformation is not like a feel good Hollywood movie. The year after we made the pivot to the cloud was brutal to say the least. We barely survived as our business fell off a cliff. That was also when the miracle began. In the beginning of our second year, revenue started to ramp up, and we are now the leading cloud HR company in Taiwan. Thinking back, that near death crisis was indeed our window of opportunity.

Finding the last piece of the puzzle - EVOX

As an IT company, and one in the “remote work” business, Femas adopted many cloud services into our work environment and work processes. We use products like Slack, Google hangouts, trello, etc. And, when faced with the coronavirus pandemic, we took the threat seriously and came up with solutions to prevent the virus spread. We made our plans during the Chinese New Year break, way ahead of the pack.

However, when we mapped out plans for telework, we found one big hole. If one member of our team became quarantined, then the whole company would need to work from home. How would our sales team handle customer calls since we could not insist customers contact us over the web?

The flaws of our legacy PBX became obvious. The MVPN' s mobile calling charges alone would exceed our budget. After some analysis, cloud PBX became a must-have item for us. A cloud HR system company meeting a cloud PBX company is like filling in the last piece of puzzle of the mobile enterprise picture.

Getting sales and IT team to adopt EVOX

The ability for sales to respond to customers quickly is crucial to the survival of the company. In addition to acceptance by the front line sales team, the MIS manager also needs to be able to understand and manage the system. This is the key to the success of a cloud PBX.

The MIS manager of Femas was, in fact, very impressed by the text to voice feature of the EVOX auto-attendant. He found the interface very user friendly, and he can now change the company greeting easily by just typing in the text. Finding a colleague with a good voice to record a greeting has not been an easy task in the past!

With this last piece of the puzzle in place, EVOX has allowed Femas to transition our sales team to work remotely. Now, even if they are quarantined, their work continues uninterrupted.
